 Governor pays tributes to Vajpayee on Good Governance Day

Vijayawada, December 25: Andhra Pradesh Governor Sri Biswa Bhusan Harichandan paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 97th Birth Anniversary, observed as the ‘Good Governance Day’ all over the country. Governor Sri Harichandan offered floral tributes to the portrait the Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at a programme held at Raj Bhavan on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion Governor Sri Harichandan said Sri Vajpayee was a great leader whose stature cannot be compared with any other leader. The Governor said Sri Vajpayee was a great orator, a poet and a leader who fought for the rights of the common man and people of the downtrodden sections of the society and the country. I had the good fortune of working under him when he was the National President of the Jan Sangh, and he nominated me as President of Odisha unit, said the Governor. He said late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s greatest contribby ution was in various types of development which had never been thought of by any other Prime Minister or leader of this country.      

Vajpayee’s project Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, connecting the villages with good road network and good communication was launched so that people in villages can move around easily enabling growth of trade and commerce and development in all spheres, said the Governor. He said Vajpayee also launched the Swarna Chatarbhuji Yojana connecting the four big cities of the country, to show that the country is one.

The Atomic tests conducted at Pokhran, during the tenure of Sri Vajpayee as Prime Minister, were his greatest contribution. He was not perturbed by the threats held out by big powers and went ahead and accomplished the task by proudly declaring to the world that India had become an atomic power, said the Governor. Thereafter, India was recognized not only as the biggest democracy in the world but also as an atomic power by elevating the honour of the country and he had never seen such a great leader whose oratory skills made people spellbound and the people can never forget his contribution to the country, said the Governor.  

Sri A. Shyam Prasad, Joint Secretary to Governor and officers and staff members of Raj Bhavan have attended the programme.
